The family and friends of a Workington woman who died of cancer earlier this year are hoping to hit their target of £10,000 for Cancer Research at a charity darts match tomorrow.
Elaine Burr, 54, of Walls Road, Salterbeck, died suddenly at Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary on January 25.
She had been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer for nine months.
Mrs Burr, known as Laney, was a barmaid at Harrington Royal British Legion and worked in Asda.
Her sisters-in-law Margaret James, of Garth Road, Westfield, Lynne Stewart and Maggie Burr, both of Poole Road, Salterbeck, and best friend Marie Jolly, of Harrington, have organised the 12-hour darts marathon at Harrington Royal British Legion from 8am.
Mrs Stewart said: “When we first decided to do the fundraising for Cancer Research last year, when we opened the book shop, we set ourselves a target to raise £10,000 before the end of 2012.
“To date we have raised over £7,500 and we are hoping to meet our final target on Saturday night.”
The event will include a tombola, raffles and there will be entertainment at 8pm.
The match is free entry. Tickets cost £3 for the evening’s entertainment and is payable on the door.
