Workington's Winter Wonderland festival will finish with a starring performance from X Factor finalists MK1 on Sunday.

MK1: Performing in Workington this weekend.

The London duo Charlotte Rundle, 19, and Sim Dixon, 24, were mentored by Louis Walsh to the live finals of the hit TV show until they were voted off recently.

They will bring their mix of dubstep, hip-hop and pop music to the Live Stage at 4.15pm on Sunday.

Fans were won over by their mash-up performances of Crystal Waters/Run DMC and The Jackson 5 hit I Want You Back.

X Factor star Marcus Collins will switch on the town’s Christmas lights tonight at 6pm at Uldale Car Park outside Marks & Spencer, alongside mayor of Allerdale Carole Armstrong, before singing for the crowd.

Other performances today on the Live Stage in the car park will include Christian Novak from 2.45pm, Swift at 3.30pm, Rhianna McDonald at 4.15pm, Razzmatazz at 4.30pm and House of Three Hands at 5.15pm.

Tomorrow’s performances will include Luke James Matear at 10.30am, Susie Coxs at 11.15am, Christmas puppet show – niscu at noon, Sid Wright at 12.45pm, Ben Manly at 1.30pm, Amateur Musical Society at 2.45pm, The 45s at 3.30pm and Churches Together in Workington and District at 4.15pm.

Sunday will see performances from Jamie Henry at 10.30am, Lucy Rose at 11.15am, Carlisle Dance at 1.15pm, Car Crash Radio at 2.45pm and The Alleys at 3.30pm.

An open-top bus will drive through the streets of Workington showcasing the Rugby League World Cup ahead of next year’s tournament.

The cup will be on the bus alongside Santa, the mayor of Allerdale Coun Armstrong and the mayor of Workington Andrew Lawson. It will be promoting the tournament which sees two matches played at Workington’s Derwent Park stadium next year.

It will visit the Carnegie Theatre on Finkle Street from noon to 2pm, The Oval Centre at Salterbeck from 2.25pm to 2.35pm, Moorclose Community Centre from 3.25pm to 3.05pm, Maryport Rugby League Club from 4.15pm to 4.25pm, Seaton Rugby League Club from 5pm to 5.20pm and then to the Christmas light switch on for 5.45pm.

The three-day festival will have a Christmas market and log cabin where children can visit Santa and his elves.

Other entertainment will include balloon modelling from Daffy Dill on Friday, Mary the Fairy stilt walker, Bubbles The Clown, Circus Jim and Mr Pumpernickle on Saturday and Sunday.

The three-day festival, supported by the Times & Star, is being organised through a partnership including CN Events, Workington Town Council, Nuclear Management Partners and Carlisle Leisure Ltd.
