AROUND 50 people turned out for a West Cumbria Memory Walk last weekend.

The event was organised by Catherine Coulson of Harrington Road, Workington, in memory of her grandmother Kathleen Markland from Distington.

Catherine, who works at the Maryport Wave Centre, said she wanted to take part in a walk and discovered there were none in West Cumbria.

"I decided to do my own."

As well as enjoying free tea and coffee and a walk along the Maryport promenade, those attending were able to get information and advice from the many groups who had stalls at the Wave.

There was also a memory tree on which they could tie "leaves" explaining why they were walking.
