A EXHIBITION about Maryport’s history was successful, its organisers said.
The only complaint people had, said spokesman Jim Cunningham, was that the exhibition was not running for long enough.
Reminiscence Maryport was held at Allerdale COSC at Park Hill over the weekend to raise money for the charity.
“We do not have a total yet but the weekend was definitely a success,” Mr Cunningham said.
The exhibition, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday overran each day because of the interest that people were taking in the displays.
“People wanted to ask questions about everything - the railways, the Romans, the mines and shipbuilding. but the main interest was in trying to discover family connections,” Mr Cunningham said.
One woman, originally from the Isle of Man, said she had always been told she was a descendant of Fletcher Christian. There were also several sons and daughters of the old Border Reivers trying to confirm their place on the sprawling family trees.
Of particular interest was a photo of the opening of the Maryport Civic Hall, soon to be sold. There were hundreds of faces in the photo and several people were able to pick out friends, relatives or themselves.
