Big Toddle raises cash for children

MARYPORT and Flimby youngsters took part in the Big Toddle to raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s.YOUNGSTERS will visit Workington fire station next week to learn how to stay safe. A BROUGHTON Primary School pupil has won an online police competition.ASPATRIA and district neighbourhood forum will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at 7pm at Blennerhasset village hall.
Toddlers completed the half-mile sponsored challenge at the Barnardo’s Centres on Friday.
Spokeswoman Stella Messenger said the focus was on people who help us and the children were delighted with those who came to help.
Allerdale council sent a mini-road sweeper, Flimby construction firm Thomas Armstrong sent a digger and lollipop man Alex Wilson, nurse Lynn Ivison, Helen from the Post Office, Ken’s Taxi firm, firefighters and members of the motorbike group also took part.
The year six pupils from Workington and Whitehaven will go through practical activities organised by Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service.
The scheme is being funded by Nuclear Management Partners, a consortium bidding for the Sellafield management contract.
Fin Shaw, eight, entered the competition via the new Cops4Kids section of the police website and suggested ways in which it could be developed.
Fin was one of three winners chosen from more than 150 entries and won a Lego set and VIP tour of a police station.
Items on the agenda include plans for a children’s centre in Aspatria, the spreading of sewage sludge on fields and a community travel plan for Allhallows, Blennerhasset and Torpenhow.
