A DEARHAM youngster has been recognised for his achievements as a Cub Scout.
James Costin, 10, of Row Brow, completed a series of challenges to become the first member of his Cockermouth unit to win the Queen’s Scout silver award.
James completed challenges in a number of categories which included global, creative, care, community and fitness.
To win the award James wrote an essay about charity Save the Children and learned about orienteering.
He also made a bird box and a pencil case, learned how to play tag rugby and interviewed members of his community about the history of Dearham.
Mum Pat Harper said: “I’m proud of him. It’s another feather in his cap. I hope it will help him to stick in at a lot of other things. It shows what you can do when you persevere. I hope it will encourage other young people to have a go and enjoy themselves.”
Dad Jim Costin said: “We are really chuffed about it. He has done well.”
