BROUGHTON Moor parish councillor Nigel Williamson has died suddenly at his home at the age of 51 after suffering a heart attack.
Born in Whitehaven in 1957, Mr Williamson was educated at Bransty juniors and Richmond Secondary Schools.
He joined the Army after leaving school and worked locally before moving to London to further his career.
He married childhood sweetheart Martine and returned to Cumbria, settling in Broughton.
A member of the British National Party, for whom he was Copeland group secretary, he was last year co-opted on to the parish council.
Mr Williamson was an active member of the Association of British Ex-servicemen and also did voluntary work for Age Concern.
Cumbrian BNP members today described him as a “true friend”.
His funeral will be at Distington Hall Crematorium, Distington Hall, Distington, on Thursday, at 3.30pm, with a wake to follow.
