A charity has been given a cash boost to help it continue its work.

Friends of Workington Hall Parklands received £1,260 from the Nuvia fund – which is managed by Cumbria Community Foundation – to reinstate access to a high-level terraced path in Curwen Park.

The volunteer-led group manage the grounds of Workington Hall, Curwen Park and Mill Field and has previously helped with conservation tasks such as tree planting, habitat improvement, control of invasive plants and litter picks.

Volunteers from Lakes College, West House and Turning Point regularly take part in the group’s projects.

The grant will be used to cover the cost of hiring a digger to carry out ground clearance work. Volunteers will then complete the restoration work.

Councillor Michael Heaslip, chairman of Friends of Workington Hall Parklands, said: “The creation of alternative walking routes with improved access to woodland will provide enhanced opportunities for local people to enjoy this valuable area of green space.”

Willie Slavin, chairman of the West Cumbria Grants Panel, said: “Cumbria Community Foundation manage several grant making funds on behalf of individuals and businesses.”
