A Workington community centre is due to get a boost of more than £200,000.

Moorclose Community Centre has sold land worth £201,000 to the Allerdale Investment Partnership.

The land, off Ashfield Road South, was transferred to the centre by the county council through a Community Asset Transfer earlier this year to help secure its future.

The Allerdale Investment Partnership wants to build a 290-home development at the site, off Ashfield Road South.

An Allerdale council spokesman said: “Allerdale Investment Partnership is in advanced discussions with a property developer about the plans for housing on Ashfield Road South site.”

Gerald Humes, a director at the Needham Drive centre, said the community centre was waiting for formal notification of the sale.
