Maryport and district will be well represented at the nation's main Remembrance Sunday commemorations in London today.

Flimby Girls' Brigade will represent the brigade nationally by taking part in the march past the Cenotaph in Whitehall.

A Support Our Soldiers wreath will also be laid by Maryport Combined Services member Mark Howard.

The wreath has been organised by Ryan Winthrop, Cumbrian co-ordinator of Support our Soldiers, also of Maryport.

Mr Winthrop will meanwhile lay a wreath on behalf of the group at the Maryport ceremony on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a new organiser for the Poppy Appeal in Maryport is needed.

Brian Mossom, of the Royal Naval Association in Maryport, has been organising the appeal for 15 years but has now retired.

He said he took the job because the Naval Association was the only returned services group in town and he felt it was their duty to take over when the British Legion closed.

Maryport's Remembrance Day parade will begin at Fleming Square at 2.30pm with a service at St Mary's Church at 3pm followed by the laying of wreaths at the Memorial Gardens.
