Hundreds of people laced up their trainers to take part in Hospice At Home West Cumbria's annual colour run.

Now in its fourth year, the event is hoping to raise over £30,000 for the palliative care charity.

Almost 900 participants took on the 5k or 1k course at Muncaster Castle, having powder colour thrown at them while they ran, walked or even danced their way to the finishing line.

Diane Maxwell, 35, of Frizington, who completed the 5k course said: "We've all had an absolutely fantastic day. There were nine of us in our team, three adults and six children and we didn't really know what to expect, but we've all had a great time taking part in all of the activities, keeping us and the kids entertained all day."

Cadence Dawes, seven, of Workington, said: "Running through the clouds of colour was so much fun, I finished the race covered in yellow and looked like Lisa Simpson."

Hospice At Home spends over £1.2 million a year to provide its service, with only a quarter of the funding coming from the NHS.

The rest of the cash is raised thanks to events and the charity's shops.

Stella Walsh, fundraiser at the charity, said: "I am thrilled with the success of this year's colour run, the whole day was a buzz of excitement from start to finish, we have had lots of great feedback and I definitely think it has been our best one yet. A huge thank you to each and every one of our colour run supporters, this includes, volunteers, staff, spectators and of course all our wonderful runners."

Linda Hewitt, charity's CEO, said: "The Hospice at Home West Cumbria Colour Run has been a phenomenal success and my thanks go to every single member of the marketing and income generation team for their superb organisation and co-ordination leading up to the event and their tireless energy on the day.

"I would like to say a special thank you to all the Hospice volunteers, new and old, who came out in force to make the day such a success and all other Hospice staff who volunteered their time to help out on the day.

"Finally, on behalf of everyone at Hospice at Home West Cumbria, I would like to say a special thank you to Peter and Iona Frost-Pennington for their generosity and hospitality in allowing us to use Muncaster Castle, because without them the event would not be the same."
