Youngsters and their families had the chance to experience all kinds of fun during an event organised to bring the community together.

During the fun day at Workington Leisure Centre in Moorclose on Saturday, people could take part in different craft activities, circus skills workshops and sit down and relax during storytelling sessions.

But it was the animals which took centre stage.

Organisers had arranged for displays of mini-beasts, birds of prey and a collection of moths taken from the nearby Siddick nature reserve.

To keep everyone fuelled for all the action on offer there was a barbecue throughout the day.

The event was organised by Workington Town Council and the South Workington Youth Partnership.

The two groups usually organise the fun days on different occasions throughout the year, usually one in the summer, one at Christmas and another around Halloween.

Due to their success they’ve been holding the events for the last three years.

Amy Johnson, events officer for Workington Town Council, said: “We had about 100 children here and everyone really enjoyed it.”

The next free event has been planned for August 27 at Vulcan Park in Workington between 1pm and 4pm.
