Organisers of Workington's Armed Forces Day have presented £5,000 to the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

Pat Lavin and Lesley Jackson, who organise the annual event year, presented Kerry Newham, of the Poppy Appeal, with the cash at a thank you evening held in Workington's Royal British Legion Club.

The money was raised over several events leading up to Armed Forces Day, including quiz nights, coffee mornings and a sponsored walk, and on the day itself with a raffle and bucket collection.

After expenses for Armed Forces Day had been covered, the rest was donated to the charity.

Next year's Armed Forces Day has already been booked for Saturday, June 25 and the fund-raising has already started.

A race afternoon will be held in the club on Sunday, October 18, a remembrance ball with entertainment from wartime singer Cindy Hoten will be held on Saturday, October 31 and a party night will be held on Sunday, December 27.
