Army veterans have donated more than £2,000 to local cadets and organisations.

The West Cumbria branch of the Duke of Lancaster's Association collected the cash in supermarkets across the county.

The largest donation of £1,400 went to the The Duke of Lancaster’s Regimental Charity.

The cash will be used for grants towards the welfare of veterans, serving soldiers and their families.

Donations were also given to sea, army and air cadets, the Museum of Military Life in Carlisle, which holds artefacts from local soldiers and regiments going back over 300 years, and SSAFA.

The branch meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the Army Reserve Centre on Harrington Road, Workington at 7pm.

Any ex-service personnel are welcome to join.
