More than 25 musicians have teamed up in a bid to help a Workington youngster get the lifesaving treatment she needs by releasing a charity record.

Emily Shutt, six, of Railbank Drive, has been fighting leukaemia since she was diagnosed four years ago.

In February 2015, the family received the devastating news the cancer was at a terminal stage.

In November last year she relapsed for the third time.

Carl Walmsley, 35, and friend Daley Rogers, 36, both of Whitehaven, had the idea of producing a single to raise money for Emily.

Carl said: “I met Emily a couple of years back when I did a charity boxing fight to raise money for her. She’s a cracking little lass and I’ve done bits and bobs to raise money for her ever since.

“I’ve always been one for ideas and I thought, if we got some local artists together and recorded a single, we could reach out to more people and help Emily get the treatment she needs.”

Emily’s family were hoping she would qualify for a trial at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. But now the family say they don’t know what the future holds.

Mum Helen, said: “We’ve no idea where we’re going. To qualify for the trial they told us Emily had to show cancer in her system. Now it’s in her spinal fluid but it’s the wrong place for her to qualify.

“Until we solve this issue we don’t know what’s the next step.

“We know there are trials in America, but it costs hundreds of thousands of pounds. We want to explore every opportunity to get Emily treated in England. We just want to save our daughter’s life.

“There isn’t a cure for Emily. It’s trials we’re banking on.”

Daley has contacted artists including Cory Spedding, Gav Mckew and Paul Tomlinson. They are due to release their own take on Something Inside So Strong, which will be recorded at The Music Farm Studio in Egremont.

They are hoping the proceeds from the sale will help support Emily’s family.

Daley said: “All the entertainers around here know each other. We want to try to make a track that’s a bit different.”

Helen said: “What they’re doing is absolutely lovely. It makes me feel like there’s hope for Emily.”

The family have also set up a fundraising page.
