Asda at Dunmail Park raised more than £500 on Saturday, inspired by the family of a Seaton woman who died of cancer.

The supermarket held fund-raising activities in store to mark the chain's 50th birthday.

They chose to support Cancer Research UK in honour of Tina Walton, of Seaton, who died in November 2013 and whose mum Margaret Thompson works in the store.

Tina's sister Joanne Wilson and a group of friends and relatives took part in the Race for Life in Carlisle earlier this month.

Staff at Asda donned 1960s outfits and ran a tombola and other stalls, joined by members of Tina's family.

Frozen characters Anna and Elsa joined the fun, provided by Jordan's Jungle in Cockermouth, and The Sugar Shack donated prizes.

Margaret, 56, of Flimby, said she wanted to help find a cure for cancer in her daughter's memory.

She added: "I don't think anybody should have to go through it. I'm over the moon with the total."
