The driver arrested after the crash that killed Seaton woman Audrey Tunstall and left her friend and neighbour Natalli Fisher fighting for her life has has his police bail extended.

Audrey Tunstall, 79, died in October after she was struck by a Volkswagen Passat car as she crossed the busy A596 near Dunmail Park shopping centre in Siddick, Workington.

The 46-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the Volkswagen Passat he was driving struck the pair on the A596 near Dunmail Park on October 22.

The friends, both of Cape Road, were heading to Asda to collect a prescription for Mrs Tunstall, 79, when the accident happened.

Mrs Tunstall was described by her family as "an elegant lady who faced life to the full".

Mother-of-two Natalli was critically injured in the crash and was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after the crash.

She was left in a coma with devastating brain, pelvis, arm and chest injuries which saw her undergo 19 hours of surgery.

After regaining consciousness, she was transferred to a specialist brain injury rehabilitation unit at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

Her sister Caroline Forber said the extent of her brain damage would not be known for six to 12 months and her recovery was likely to take two or three years.

An online fundraising page set up to support Natalli's family has raised more than £6,300, more than two-and-a-half times its original target.

The man's bail has been extended until April 20.
