Motorcyclists are gearing up for an annual charity Easter egg run on Sunday.

The ride, organised by the Whitehaven Motorcycle Action Group, will see bikers travel from Keswick to Whitehaven collecting Easter eggs along the way.

The donations of eggs are given to local charities including Age UK, Barnardo’s, Footsteps and underprivileged children.

Anne Crayston, of Whitehaven MAG, said the ride out marks the opening of the bike season.

She said: “It tends to be the first ride of the year. Anybody is welcome to come along.”

Bikers are asked to arrive at the motorcycle park, at Keswick Central car park, behind Oddfellows pub, from 11.30am.

The ride starts at 12pm and bikers will head to Cockermouth Auction Mart at 12.30pm; Greggains Garage, Maryport at 1.15pm; Tesco, Workington at 1.45pm and the Old Custom House on Whitehaven harbour at 2.30pm.

Sue Hayman, MP for Workington, is due to meet riders at Cockermouth, and Trudy Harrison, Copeland MP, is set to meet the group in Whitehaven.

People can meet the bikers and donate Easter eggs at stops along the route.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Whitehaven MAG, which campaigns to protect and promote the interests and rights of all riders.

It is part of a national organisation which represents the voice of riders in local and national government.

A host of activities are taking place this year to celebrate the group’s milestone birthday, including a party and bike show in September.

“It would be great to see any old or young faces at any of the events we are running throughout the year,” said Anne.
