New mums can keep fit while looking after their babies thanks to a new form of exercise.

Jen Wilson, 39, of Harrington, is to launch Buggyfit classes in Workington, Cockermouth and Whitehaven next week.

Jen, who is mum to 17-month-old Owen, said: “The idea came to me when I had my son. I found it difficult to find time to exercise so I was walking every day pushing the buggy.

“I started doing some research and I came across Buggyfit and decided to offer these classes in West Cumbria to help new mums.”

Jen is a qualified personal trainer and pre and post-natal instructor. Her new hour-long classes will see mums walking outdoors with their buggies, stopping off to do exercises such as squats and lunges and to work their upper bodies using benches or fences.

Jen added: “These classes are for anyone who has a baby or a toddler. It helps with physical and mental wellbeing and it’s an opportunity to socialise and get out.

“The main thing is that it’s an hour for mums to come and have some time to themselves, mixing with other mums and not worrying about childcare.”

Jen said: “I’ve had a great response from mums and I’m really pleased with that.”
