A Cockermouth pub manager has so many happy memories of her time in the bar that she and her husband decided to call their newborn son after it.

Sharon Varty has been manager at Hunter's Bar, on Main Street, for the past four years.

She did her final shift there on the Saturday and gave birth to her son three days later.

She and husband David, a safety advisor at Sellafield and who also worked at the pub, have called him Hunter.

The dedicated landlady, who has given up work to spend time with her two sons, said: "I felt fine, very active, so it was good to be working for so long."

The couple already have one son, 22-month-old Parker but were in no doubt about what they wanted to call their second child.

Sharon said: "Hunter's has been a big part of our lives. I met David when I was working there, before I became manager. We have been living above the pub.

"I loved working there, I made many friends for life.

"It was really sad to leave, but it was the right time for us."

The couple and their children are settling into their new home at St Mungo's Close, Dearham.

Hunter's Bar will open again today with two new faces behind the bar.

Debbie Burrows and daughter Leah Nelson, of Keswick, have taken over.
