A Cockermouth cartoonist has brought together artists from across the county to create a colouring book to raise funds for flood victims.

Gavin Pollock has also recruited his artistic mother and daughters to design an image for the book.

The UK's children's laureate Chris Riddell, the political cartoonist for The Observer, has contributed three pictures and more than 20 artists have donated their work.

Gavin, of New Road, teaches life drawing and Japanese.

He studied at The Cartoon Centre in London.

He said: "I have been having a go with colouring books and trying to break into the comic business. When the floods hit I wanted to do something to help raise funds. With the explosion of adult colouring books I thought that would be the obvious choice.

"I put out an appeal on Facebook and lots of people were keen to contribute."

His mother, Rosalind, of Rubby Banks Road, and daughters Asahi, 17, and Mei, 13, who both go to Cockermouth School, have each created a picture.

Gavin has been working on the book alongside artist Alex Jakob-Whitworth, who is involved with The Cloisters, an artisan gallery in Appleby which, along with many other businesses, was flooded.

The book will include up to 50 images and be sold throughout the county.

Gavin and Alex are appealing to any local businesses who can support them with production costs. Email gavin.67@btinternet.com for more information.
