A popular Cockermouth am-dram star will be honoured in a drama tour starting next week.

The Fitton Active U3A group, which was co-founded by Liz Fitton, will perform their production Selfies at four venues, dedicated to Liz, who died last month from cancer.

Member Alison Shutt said: “We’re fortunate our group includes not just talented actors, but writers who are responsible for producing the sketches included in our Selfies production.

“We want to reach lots of local people. The funds we raise are to be donated to Macmillan Cancer Care, which played such a vital role in ensuring Liz continued to enjoy her life at home with her family and friends.”


Jo Kirk The show will be staged at 10am next Thursday , December 15 , at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Cockermouth, 7.30pm, on Wednesday, December 21, at Plumbland Village Hall, 7.30pm on January 19 at the Theatre Royal, Workington, 7.30pm on January 21 at Threlkeld Village Hall and 7.30pm on January 28 at Ullock Village Hall.

Liz’s daughter Jo Kirk is also raising money in her memory.

Jo, a childminder who lives in Workington, has created a range of gifts to sell in aid of Eden Valley Hospice, where Liz spent her final days. She will sell them at Bart’s craft fair in the town from 1pm tomorrow.

Jo said: “I cannot thank them enough. We were all there when mum passed. She planned her end-of-life care and it was so important to her.”
