Cockermouth mayor Sam Standage has presented two cheques for £722 each to the two charities he has supported during his year in office.
Derwent Newton, of the Allerdale Multiple Sclerosis Society, and Ken Archer, of Cockermouth Community Hospital League of Friends, were delighted to received the money at Cockermouth Town Hall.
Mr Newton said: "This money will help alleviate problems for sufferers in the area."
