Cumbrian cricketer Ben Stokes has been interviewed for the role of England test captain.
The role became vacant after Alastair Cook stepped down earlier this week, stating that a "new voice" was needed.
Last year, England lost a record-equalling eight Test matches in a calendar year - and after reflection Cook realised his time was up.
The BBC has reported that both all-rounder Stokes, bowler Stuart Broad and batsman Joe Root have been interviewed for the captaincy, having met director of cricket Andrew Strauss and his team yesterday.
Stokes, a former pupil at Cockermouth School, moved to Cumbria when he was 12 after his dad Ged was appointed coach of rugby league side Workington Town.
Root, 26, is the bookmakers' favourite to land the role and has been described as England's leading wicket taker James Anderson as the "obvious candidate".
