A WEST Cumbrian woman with the sea in her blood used her 70th birthday to raise more than £300 for a voluntary lifeboat crew.

Diane Stevenson of Maryport turned 70 last months.

Instead of gifts she asked for donations to Maryport Inshore Rescue, a voluntary emergency service which relies solely on charitable contributions.

Diane's grandfather, Sydney Stevenson and great grandfather George Stevenson were both lifeboat men.

Diane decided that she would like to use her birthday as a chance to raise money for charity and Maryport Inshore Rescue was an obvious choice.

She raised a total of £333.
