A popular dance festival is back on the stage in Workington for the 29th year running.

Cumbria and North Lancs Dance Festival started at the Theatre Royal on Monday with around 200 dancers performing in front of adjudicators.

Faye Llewellyn, 19, is one of the highest scorers of the first two days of the competition, with a result of 93 in the character section.

A students at Rumney Greaves Dance Academy, she said: "I feel fab, I wasn't expecting it."

Marie Money, organiser, said: "It's good for the dancers to come to these events, it gives them something to do during half term and they enjoy it.

"Some of them do go on to have dancing careers too."

Marie took over the organisation of the festival in 2015, when her mum Ann O'Hare died.

Marie said: "I like the organising but I don't like the tension and having to go on stage, how the children do is beyond me.

"But when it's all finished I always think there was nothing to worry about.

The festival runs until tomorrow.
