A trio of West Cumbrian driving instructors are teaming up with pupils to take part in a charity relay next month.

Kevin Gibson, 51, of Wastwater Avenue, Workington, Louise Forster, 44, of Bridgefoot, and Vidya Nichols, 47, of Main Street, St Bees will take part in The Big Learner Relay for Children in Need.

Driving instructors across the United Kingdom will complete a leg of the relay with a pupil in the driving seat.

They will carry a dedicated top box on their cars, which they will pass on to the next instructor like a baton when they complete their leg of the relay.

The event starts in Northern Ireland on Tuesday, November 1 and the finale will take place at Donington Park in Derbyshire on Friday, November 18.

Louise and pupil Demi Miller, 17, of Seaton will do the Ambleside to Keswick leg, Kevin and pupil Peyton Minnican, 18, of Silloth will go from Keswick to Cockermouth and Vidya will be joined on the Cockermouth to Carlisle leg by Katie Braithwaite, 17, of Whitehaven.

All three legs take place on November 11.

The instructors are raising money by getting people to sponsor spots on their cars and Louise has set up an online donation page.

Kevin, of Spot On Driving Tuition, said: "I took part in it last year and it was spot on. It was good for the student.

"It's for a good cause and you get to meet other driving instructors. It's a good atmosphere, but the main thing is raising money for Children in Need."

Louise, who runs Focused Driver Training, said: "I think it sounds like something fun and a good way to raise the profile of driving instructors. We're raising money for a good cause."

Vidya, of Vidz Driving Tuition, said: "I'm getting quite excited now and I've had some more of my spots signed. I'm looking forward to the day."

Last year's Big Learner Relay raised almost £100,000 for Children in Need.

Hampshire driving instructor Louise Walsh came up with the idea for the relay which first took place in 2014.
