Fairy tale Cinderella is coming to a Workington stage and the cast has had just five days to perfect their performance.

Theatre Royal’s Second Star Youth Theatre only kicked off rehearsals on Monday ahead of a performance tomorrow night.

Director Millie Hardy-Sims said she is extremely impressed with the level of professionalism and dedication shown so far from the young actors taking part.

She decided she wanted to stage Cinderella last year and in the past three months adapted the traditional fairy tale to create her script.

On Monday the 18 hopefuls gathered at the town’s Theatre Royal for a morning of “loose” auditions before rehearsals kicked off and they have taken place every day this week.

“It’s been going really well – everything is non-stop,” said Millie.

“It’s a huge bonus that it’s the summer holidays as everyone is focused for the week.

“Everyone seems to be enjoying it and I’m really pleased with how it’s going.

“It runs much smoother when we rehearse over the week because we have the costumes and the set at the theatre.”

Most of those taking part in the production are members of the youth theatre, aged between 10 and 19, and a couple of non-members are also taking part.

Millie added: “It’s vibrant and despite the fact the actors are young, they are very professional.

“The costumes are brightly coloured and the set has been designed and built especially – the carriage is amazing!”

The audience is being asked to dress up as princes and princesses for the event, which starts at 6.30pm.

Tickets cost £5. Call 07826 519000 to book.
