A father and son team have raised more than £1,700 for three good causes after reaching the summit of one of the world’s highest mountains.

Chris and Kevin Walsh completed the Mount Kilimanjaro challenge in six days, in memory of Kevin’s wife of 17 years – and Chris’ stepmum – Tracey, who died last year.

The cash from the sponsored climb will be split between Hospice at Home West Cumbria, and the Loweswater Suite and the Henderson Suite at West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

Chris, 34, lives and works in the Middle East and Kevin, 56, lives in Meadow Vale, Seaton.

Kevin said: “The challenge was inspiring and a great bonding opportunity for me and my son.

“Once we were at the top the views were spectacular. We were only allowed up there for 30 minutes as the temperature was so low, but it was worth every second.

“It’s fantastic to raise so much for organisations that were very close to Tracey’s heart.”
