Four Nations fever came early to Workington with rugby league fans getting the chance to have their photo taken with the trophy the teams will be playing for.

The town's Zebra Claims Stadium will host the New Zealand versus Scotland match on Friday, November 11.

England and Australia will also take part in the competition which launches on Friday, October 28.

The trophy has been on a tour of the country and Allerdale council and Workington Town rugby league club joined forces and arranged to bring it to the town.

It was on display in The Hub in the town centre.

David Colley, 36, of Minster Close, Workington, and daughter Jessica, nine, were among the fans who got up close and personal with the trophy.

He said: "I was really chuffed to see it when I walked through the town. I'm a rugby league fan and have played for 18 years.

"It's brilliant to see it here and that Workington is hosting a game."

The trophy recently went to Sellafield and was also on show at Huddersfield's John Smith's Stadium.

The Zebra Claims Stadium also hosted two matches during the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

Marnie Jackson, community development manager at Workington Town, said: "Bringing the cup up here at all is amazing.

"Sometimes you don't always realise that these tournaments are happening at home.

"It's an amazing opportunity for the people of Workington."

The Four Nations is a biennial competition which sees four of the world's best international sides go head-to-head to be crowned the winner.

Matches will be also held at the London Stadium, Anfield in Liverpool, The Ricoh Arena in Coventry, John Smith's Stadium and the KC Lightstream Stadium in Hull.

The top two teams will progress to the final which will take place on Sunday, November 20 at Anfield.
