A training session with a twist helped a West Cumbrian rugby league club thank its players for their efforts this season.

The event was hosted by Cockermouth Titans Rugby League Youth Club at Grassmoor Sports Centre, with obstacle courses before a social event including a barbecue and raffle for the players and their parents.

The group also played touch rugby and rounders on the day, which club chairman Sean Marsh said was to thank the players and sponsors.

He added: "It turned into a really good day and I would say by the time the first team came back from playing Lowca we probably had 70 or 80 people. I think they enjoyed the games we put on.

"It was about giving back to the players and sponsors and saying thank you.

"We invited the sponsors to come up and see what we've spent the money on, the gear and kits and everything else."

Sean said the club had grown over the last 18 months and had gone from one team to five age groups.

He added: "We want to make sure there is a pathway from the under-9s to open age. It's also about getting a feel-good factor in the club."
