The captain's charity day at Maryport Golf Club raised money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

It has also honoured the memory of Sean Crozier, 27, who died last September after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

The club’s 2016 captain Andy Humphrey hosted the event for the h and his chosen charity of the year Cancer Research UK.

The event was organised by Sean’s friends Dan Rooney and Jonathan Dawes who were delighted when over 40 teams signed up to the challenge.

Prizes on offer for the winners included cart bags, golf shoes, jumpers, polo shirts and caps.

Dan Rooney, 27, of Maryport said: "When Sean came home from travelling and working in Australia he found a new hobby in golf and couldn’t play enough.

"Sean often played with his dad and he loved it.

"He really would be delighted with the amount of support we’ve received and all to raise money for two great charities.

"The show of support is a testament to Sean and what a great lad he was."

Entry to the competition was priced at £50 for a team of four.

On top of that, more than 35 local people and businesses sponsored a hole at £50 per go.

The day was followed by entertainment in the clubhouse.

The total raised has still to be finalised.
