Former pupils of Workington Grammar School met again at a reunion after almost 60 years.

Sixty-five pupils and five teachers of the 1957 intake met on Friday at the town's Helena Thompson Museum to reminisce about their school years.

Lynne Wallace, former pupil and event organiser, said: "This proved to be an emotional and fun evening with lots of laughter whilst reminiscing the years at Workington Grammar School.

"It was incredible the distances a vast number of attendees had travelled to celebrate and re-live memories and past glories of their schooling. As well as those still living in Cumbria, individuals had travelled from all four corners of the British Isles, as far south as Dorset and Devon and as far north as Ayrshire, Renfrewshire and Dumfriesshire."

Over 70 photographs and memorabilia were on display at the Museum and remained in place over the Bank Holiday weekend for visitors to view.

The names of 14 past students who had passed away were read out during the evening, together with the names of people who were unable to attend because they are living abroad in Greece, Australia and Canada.

The event was organised by former pupils Lynne Wallace, Christine Thompson, Geraldine English, Ray Hurst, Gordon McCullough and Tom McMullen to coincide with members reaching the age of 70.
