Six patrons of a Maryport pub embarked on a hairy journey last November while another's adventure was hairless.

The six men grew beards during Movember and shaved them off at a recent charity night at the Thomas Ismay pub on Senhouse Street.

Meanwhile Lynsey Sanderson, 34, had her head shaved and a long-time bearded man, Robert McAvoy, shaved his off.

They were all united in their determination to raise money for Cancer Research although they had different reasons for doing so.

Den Royal, 70, from Crosby Villa, Allan Walls, 57, of Netherton, Tony Fisher, 62, from Grasslot, Neil Fisher, 59, from Wallace Lane, John Bowness, 54 of Senhouse Street and John Stewardson, 65, along with Lindsey Sanderson and Robert McAvoy, raised over £550 for Cancer Research.

Lynsey, who could not grow a beard, decided to have her head shave instead.

"I did it for my cousin Rebecca Marnock who died of a brain tumour when she was only 16."

John Bowness lost his mother Alicia to cancer last year.

"My father is also a cancer survivor."

The others all knew people with cancer and felt that Cancer Research was a great cause.

Will they do it next year?

Lynsey will, "but only in summer It is cold without hair in winter."

The men agreed they would be willing to do something for charity but perhaps not growing beards which were too itchy, came out grey and patchy and made at least one look like Bad Santa.
