An inquest into the death of Daniel McMullen will be opened later this month.

Daniel McMullen, 29, of Beech Court, was pronounced dead on Saturday after he was found injured at his home at around 7.30am.

Calvin James Patrickson, 22, of Newlands Gardens, has been charged with his murder.

Mr McMullen’s death comes just months after the death of his father Eric, a former chairman of Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League.

A spokesman for the league said the snooker community was left in shock by Mr McMullen’s sudden death.

He said: “Only last week Daniel formed part of the Workington Legion side who took on fellow townies the Vets Club.

“Daniel was a popular lad with a cheeky side and the league has been flooded with tributes for the sadly departed 29-year-old. His memory will never be forgotten.”

Calvin Patrickson appeared before a judge at Carlisle Crown Court on Wednesday accused of Mr McMullen’s murder. A provisional trial date was set for June 26.

He was remanded in custody until his next hearing. He was not asked to enter his plea.

A second man was also arrested in connection with Mr McMullen’s death and was released on bail until February 17.

The 24-year-old, of Workington, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Senior coroner David Roberts is due to open the inquest on January 30.
