Lots of food, drink and children's rides arrived to Workington for its second international street market.

Stalls lined up Murray Road offered anything from cheese, cakes, sausages, coffee, beer, sweets and gifts.

The three-day event started today and will continue until Sunday from 10am to 6pm each day.

Entertainment will also be on offer around the town during the street market.

Elaine Holliday, 60, of Workington, went to sample food with her husband Tony.

Elaine said: "It's good entertainment for people, it's a great opportunity to taste something different. I really like cheese and I found some nice ones here."

Amanda Rendall, 45, of Workington and friend Hayley Maybury-Potter, 33, of Workington were also wondering around the stalls and tasting the food on offer.

Amanda said: " I'm really enjoying it, the coffee stall in particular is really good."

Traders were busy handing out samples of Mediterranean food, freshly made cookies and even Prosecco.

It was Andrew Barton's first day in his new job with his Prosecco van Get Fizzed, having finished his job as a teacher yesterday.

He said: "Thursday was my last day as a teacher and today it's my first day of my new job, it's going really well. This is a brilliant event, it's different from the local market and there's lots of different offerings."

Alene Taravat, who was manning the Taste of Italy stall said he was expecting the town to get really busy today (Saturday).

He said: "I'm really happy to be here, it's the first time we're taking part in this event."

Murray Road will be closed throughout the event.

Finkle Street will also be shut from the junction with Murray Road to Vinnie's Bar, with Brow Top and the rest of Finkle Street temporarily made two-way to allow access for residents.

The Murray Road taxi rank will be relocated to outside the Carnegie Theatre in Finkle Street.
