Ivor Nicholas, 84, and his wife, Dorothy, 83, of Asby, were married at St Mary’s Church, Gosforth, on August 8 1956, after first meeting as teenagers.
The couple lived in Cockermouth for 25 years before moving to Asby.
Ivor was a photographer in the RAF during his National Service and then spent his career as a freelance photographer, including working as news cameraman for Border TV.
He is a proud’ lifetime member of the National Union of Journalists and has seen books of his photographs published.
Dorothy worked in the back office’, helping Ivor after previously working as a civil servant in Workington.
She said: “We both like to be involved with the Asby community and go to the Thursday Club at Ullock once a month.
“We still do a bit of old time and ballroom dancing in Whitehaven most Monday afternoons.’’
The couple, who have children Louise and Robert, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, held a family get-together to mark their anniversary.
