The first Jennings Rivers Ride to roll out of Cockermouth takes place on Sunday.

There are three routes for cyclists of all abilities – 28 miles, 53 miles or 84 miles – on little known backroads.

A family trail will also be held, allowing riders to search for chocolate booty supplied by Friars of Keswick.

The Jennings Rivers Ride was created after the floods in 2009 and the four previous events started and finished in Keswick, following the affected river courses.

The event raises money for Cumbria Community Foundation.

As Jennings Brewery, which sponsors the event, was flooded again last year, organisers decoded to move the event to Cockermouth to create a fresh challenge.

Andy Beeforth, of the foundation, said: “The floods of December 2015 once again reminded us of the fragility of our lives and also of the warmth and generosity of people.”

On-the-day registration will take place at Cockermouth School between 6.30am and 11am, with different times for different routes.
