If some people saw a pint of beer running towards them they may think all their dreams had come true, others might reckon they're going mad.

But, rest assured, you're not.

If you live in Cockermouth there's a good chance you'll see a pint of beer running towards you this month.

Jill Harvey, of Lowscales Drive, is behind the fund-raising fun.

She wanted to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and decided to sign up for Go Sober for October.

"For me, not drinking for a month is a big deal but not everyone is like me so I felt I had to do something else," said Jill, who has a son, Joel, four.

"I thought about also running a mile everyday. I'm not a runner so this would be a big deal.

"However, lots of other friends do triathlons and all sorts, so again this did not sound so impressive. I wanted to show I was really making an effort.

"That's when I came up with the idea of dressing up as a pint of beer for my daily runs."

Jill, who is married to Bill and has her own online maternity clothes business, tracked down a costume online.

Her daily runs have prompted a range of responses.

"I've had some very strange looks.

"One driver slowed down to look and then came back again for another look.

"I can't go out at night in case I give someone a heart attack.

"My friends and family can't believe I'm doing it, they think I'm having a mid-life crisis," said Jill, 43.

But she's hoping her efforts will raise lots of money.
