A WORKINGTON man will hold a fundraising night for a cause close to his heart on Saturday.

John Hastings, 43, of Mossbay Road, is raising money for Cancer Research UK and has raised almost £6,500 for the charity since 2008.

John lost his sister Terena to Non Hodgkin lymphona in 1996 and his uncle Tony to bone cancer in April last year.

The charity night will take place at the The Harbour Side Bar on Stanley Street from 7pm.

It will feature live performances from Britain's Got Talent semi-finalist Emma Jones and from Andrew Burns and Karen Gee as well as a raffle, stand-up, karaoke and bingo.

John recently completed the Workington 10k run for the charity and raised £518.

He said: "I'm thrilled to be able to put this on.

"Paul Rosewarne and Ajay Patel from The Harbour Side Bar have been absolutely superb as they were close friends of my uncle Tony."

John has taken part in five Great Cumbrian Runs, two 10k runs and held four fundraising nights in aid of the charity.

Tickets are available from the bar and cost £5.
