A Gen2 apprentice is set to take the plunge in a charity skydive in memory of his mother.

Billy Simpson, 18, is preparing to mark the third anniversary of the death of his mum, Tracey, by doing the daring fundraiser on November 6.

Billy, a nuclear operations apprentice, is hoping to raise as much money as possible for the British Lung Foundation.

Billy said: “It’s hard to lose your mum at any age; at a young age it hits you really hard.”

Tracey died in 2013 from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a type of lung disease.

Billy said: “My mum was diagnosed in 2011 and couldn’t do many active activities. She was forced to leave her dream job and downgraded to a call centre.

“My mother was an inspirational woman and was the centre of our family.

“The funds raised from my skydive will hopefully raise awareness of lung disease and raise funds to aid further research into IPF which at present has very little known about it.”

Billy originally set a target of £500 and since his Just Giving page was launched, over £330 has been pledged.

He is now hoping to exceed his target and raise as much cash as possible.
