People in Keswick are being urged to welcome six wounded war veterans next week as they undertake a 1,000-mile walk around Britain.

The Walking With The Wounded team is due to visit the town on September 14 from 3.30pm after climbing Scafell Pike.

There will be entertainment in Market Square from the Committed 2 Rock choir, a chance to raise funds for the charity with a mobile wall from Keswick Climbing Wall and the walkers will be given a complementary pint of beer each from Keswick Brewery.

Mayor of Keswick Paul Titley will officially welcome the team to the town.

Residents and visitors are urged to turn out to welcome the team of four British and two American veterans, accompanied by Sir Chris Bonington and his son Rupert, whose sports nutrition company is supporting the team.

The 1,000-mile challenge began in Scotland on Saturday , August 22 and is due to finish at Buckingham Palace on November 1.

One hundred people can join the team on each of its mountain days for a donation of £50, giving people the chance to climb Scafell Pike with them.

The team will rest in Keswick for a few nights, courtesy of The Inn on the Square, and are expected to enjoy some sightseeing during their stay.
