Nearly 50 people turned out to clean up Maryport Railway Station on Sunday.
The Love Maryport Town Team had put out a call for volunteers and were overwhelmed by the response.
Debbie Wright, team chairman, said: "We had the Sea Cadets, children and adults from Ewanrigg and Netherton Tenants' and Residents' Association, one whole family, community and town team members and a lot of help from Allerdale council.
"Street scene officer, Gary Banks helped and town centre manager, Toni Magean helped with the work and the organisation."
She said special thanks needed to go to Alan Watson, a resident living near the station.
“He does landscape gardening. When he saw us he came out with his tools and was a huge help.”
Mr Magean, said the number of people meant that more work was able to be done than anticipated.
He said: "We cut down overhanging bushes and removed an astonishing amount of weeds and litter. We cleared and cleaned the approaches to the station and the station itself.”
Two planters were installed and planted out with more to come.
Laurence Hillard, Cumbria County Council’s community rail officer, who was also present, said he would ensure that some money was made available to help the town team to complete the work at the station.
At the end of the afternoon those taking part in the clean up were given refreshments at the Her Citi café on Crosby Street.
