The Browton Seven+ are in training for their annual sponsored bike ride which, over the years, has raised more than £70,000.

The team of 18 cyclists include six of the original gang which has been staging fundraising rides for the past 26 years.

They will set off on Saturday, October 8, from the Sun Dial, in Little Broughton, and head up the coast to Bowness on Solway.

They will cover 36 miles the first day and 34 the following day.

The group, who have named their route The Solway Rumble, will be raising funds for the village's over-60s outing fund and Myeloma UK.

Team captain Mally Martin said: "This is our 27th year. Over the years we have helped everybody in the village, including the church, village hall, carnival and amateur rugby league teams.

"We also wanted to support the myeloma charity this year as a local lad David Barnes, of Little Broughton, has this blood cancer and raises money for the charity."

Everyone sponsoring The Browton Seven+ will be in with the chance of winning £50, which has been donated by Carol and Malcolm Comloquoy-Spence, of Broughton Post Office.

It will go to the person who correctly guesses the time it takes to complete the first day of cycling.
