A group of young people campaigning for youth mental health have produced a film to spread the message.

Supported by the Ewanrigg Local Trust in Maryport, the We Will team were originally from Netherhall and Cockermouth schools but now include students from Carlisle College and Workington Academy, with new members welcomed.

The We Will group's work was recognised last week when they won a Golden Apple Award.

The purpose of their short film is to highlight the importance of properly listening to people to understand and not just to replying.

“ The script was written over a cup of coffee, costumes were borrowed, and the clapboard was clapped,” said Kate Whitmarsh from the trust.

She said the group has been making short informational and promotional films on their phones and were keen to develop thee film making skills.

Cumbria Film Studios in Workington invited the young people to to spend an afternoon learning how to make a short film.

“ None of them had any previous similar experience. Whilst it was a steep learning curve, they loved it and would really like to do more film making in the future. We are really grateful to Cumbria Film Studios who gave up their time and we re so supportive of the young people. We hope that this is the first of many films they make,” Mrs Whitmarsh said.
