A Maryport couple are celebrating 60 years of marriage.

June and Dennis Creighton, of Elbra Farm Close, were married at St Kentigern's Church in Aspatria on July 20, 1957.

To mark their diamond wedding anniversary, the couple are due to enjoy a meal at the Greenhill Hotel in Wigton with their family, which now spans five generations.

They have four children, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson.

Speaking about their marriage, Mrs Creighton said: "Like any married couple, we've had our ups and downs, but we've worked through the hard times."

She said the couple first met at a carnival dance at the Masonic Hall in Aspatria. They married a year later and set up home in the town.

Mr Creighton worked as a builder and then as a milkman, before moving on to the railway where he stayed until his retirement. His wife also worked on the milk round and was a home care assistant in Aspatria.

The couple enjoyed greyhound racing for many years. Their most successful dog made it to the All England Cup Final in Newcastle.

They have lived in Maryport for the last 19 years.

To celebrate the couple's milestone anniversary, their youngest son, Dennis, has had their original wedding photos professionally restored in colour.

Mrs Creighton said she was "delighted" with how well they had turned out.

They are also due to receive an anniversary card from the Queen.

So when asked what the secret to their successful marriage was, the couple said it was down to "give and take."
