A Maryport man who drove to Benidorm with a friend for charity has raised more than £300.

Stephen Briscoe, 47, of Church Street, Maryport, drove a Volvo Estate with John McCallig from Warwickshire through Rouen and Clermont-Ferrand in France and on to Lloret de Mar and Benidorm in Spain.

The epic trip took four days but Stephen said it was worth it to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Research.

He added: "We were sat in the pub and we just got talking about wanting to do something for charity.

"It was a very satisfying experience but if I did it again I'd be a bit better prepared and do it in my own time.

"I've always been a big Macmillan supporter and my nan was helped by the nurses so I just wanted to give something back to the charity."

The car, which was donated by Maryport mechanics Peter Graham and Sid Wood, was decorated by Stephen and John before their trip and was left in a Benidorm scrapyard.
