We want you to give them the praise they deserve in a special awards event for West Cumbria.
Today we launch our annual appeal for readers to nominate their community’s unsung heroes who help to make a difference.
The Times & Star, in conjunction with our sister paper The Whitehaven News and our colleagues at cnevents, is supporting the West Cumbria Community Heroes Awards 2015 in association with Sellafield Ltd.
This year’s awards will recognise worthy winners in 13 categories and will be announced at a gala dinner at Whitehaven Golf Club on Thursday, November 26.
Categories are Carer of the Year, Good Neighbour, Good Friend, Young Achiever, Sporting Hero, Young Sporting Hero, Unsung Hero, Volunteer of the Year, Best Community Project, School Worker, Sustainable Business of the Year, Emergency Services Champion and West Cumbria Person of the Year.
The awards were held for the first time last year and were hailed a huge success.
Steve Johnston, editor of the Times & Star, said: “Every West Cumbrian knows the value of a strong community and the very best ones play their part in it, making life that little bit better for all of us.
“We want you to tell us about the devoted carers, the good neighbours, the outstanding youngsters, the sporting heroes, the volunteers, the dedicated parents and the good friends who make our communities tick.’’
