Keswick WI’s band of knitters have raised almost £1,300 for earthquake victims in Nepal.

The women have been knitting tea-cosies and daffodils for sale since September.

The group has also ‘yarn-bombed’ their seat in Fitz Park with dozens of daffodils earlier this year.

The woolly goodies are for sale at Mrs F’s Fine Food Emporium café on Main Street, Keswick, where WI secretary Chinty Turnbull works.

She says: “Anyone is welcome to knit for us.

“The daffs are for sale at £2 each and one lady bought a bouquet of 12 of them the other day which was a lovely thing to see.”

The latest meeting of the Keswick WI featured a mass belly dance by the audience.

Almost 50 women got up to shake and wriggle at their May meeting.

They were given a demonstration by Cumbrian expert Sally McAllister, then were invited to try some moves themselves.

Chinty says: “Sally was brilliant and it was amazing to see so many members dancing.”

Next month, the women will be trying out laughter yoga and a group member will be teaching how to cha-cha-cha.
