David Burn is the new mayor of Keswick.
David, 71, of Ashtree Avenue, was elected to the position by his fellow town councillors.
He said: "It's a huge privilege that the council's placed its trust in me and I'm looking forward to it immensely.
"We've got to get the town up and running again fully following the floods.
"The priority really is to support residents because they're the people who elected us councillors and put us here but I also have to look out for the community.
"Businesses and accommodation owners have suffered, particularly without the A591, so we've got to get those numbers back up quickly which I'm sure will happen."
David has been a town councillor representing west ward for five years, having moved to the town in 2008.
He selected Pets Lifeline, based in the town, as his charity for the year.
Susan Leighton, who represents east ward, was elected deputy mayor and Lauren Strong is the mayor's cadet.
